Pak Ou Caves tour, and visit a local village
English speaking guide and English speaking driver
Pak Ou means ‘mouth of the Ou river’, and the caves are at the join of the River Mekong and The Rver Ou.
The Pak Ou Caves Private Guided Tour (we also offer this tour without a guide) can be by boat or by Minivan - the caves are about 25 kilometres from Luang Prabang.
An unexpected hole in the limestone rock face reveals the Pak Ou Caves - a sacred site visited by many Lao people and foreigners,
These limestone caves have been a place of worship for over one thousand years and contain thousands of small Buddha images in two caves - the lower cave is called Tham Ting and the upper cave Tham Theung. The Buddha images are mostly made of wood and then painted red and/or black and covered with gold leaf.
There are altars in both caves where Buddhists can make offerings of flowers and incense.
The lower cave is well lit, but you will need a torch to visit the upper cave. Please wear sandals or flat shoes, so that you can walk safely from the boat to the caves.
The Pak Ou Caves Tour will give you an afternoon that you will never forget. To see so many Buddha images in one place is a unique experience.
Visiting the unique Pak Ou Caves on our private guided tour is an experience you should not miss - you can take this tour with or without a guide. Both our guide and driver are local Luang Prabang citizens and speak good English and Thai.
The Pak Ou Caves private guided tour can be combined with a half day Luang Prabang City tour.

A steep climb up concrete steps brings you to Tham Theung with these Buddhas - don't forget your torch.
