The Elephant Conservation Centre was created in 2011 to cater for the elephants and as a school for mahouts; its main purpose is to preserve and protect the Asian elephant.
There are several temples in Sayabouri Province, notably Wat Simungkhun and Wat Sibounheuang. There are also many waterfalls and caves, and local Tai Lue villages.
The Nam Phouy National Biodiversity Conservation Area is home to many wild elephants in the forests near the Thai border.
