Luang Namtha is a small town in the mountains in Northern Laos and is close to the Chinese border. The journey from Luang Prabang initially takes your sightseeing tour along the banks of the Nam Ou, and then through many small villages surrounded by mountains with views that will be a must for the keen photographer.
In Luang Namtha most of the guest houses and restaurants are on either side of the wide main street, which forms the major part of the town. Food from many nationalities is easily available, including the not-to-be-missed pizzas cooked in an oven over a wood fire.

A challenge for the motorcyclist
Nam Dee Waterfall is about 5 kilometres from the centre of Luang Namtha - easily accessible by motor bike or by bicycle (preferably a mountain bike as the rough, although a good dirt road, is quite bumpy).

As Luang Namtha is 315 kilometres from Luang Prabang which would make a very long day of travelling, we suggest that your family or small group might like to spend two days on the journey, with an overnight stop in Udomxai (also called Muang Xai).

Muang Sing can be visited as a day trip of from Luang Namtha, or our guide can arrange for you to stay in Muang Sing. There are fewer options for accommodation and restaurants in Muang Sing than in Luang Namtha but there is no reason to go hungry.

is the most significant temple in Muang Sing. Locals believe that the stupa contains the Adam's apple of Buddha. The date of construction is not known.
Boun Wat Xieng Tung is a major festival held in the temple during the 12th full moon - usually in November - each year.

A thin rope is attached to a stick and wound round a cylindrical stone with a pointed end.
One novice then throws the stone so that it spins like a top. Other novices then take it in turn to throw their tops to try to knock over the other top(s). The youngest novices just throw a stone at the spinning tops.
